"Tom,
That would be a cool class,
Too bad they're paving more of the road every year though.
The plan was to go this year, but at this time, it is unlikely to happen unfortunately.
Talk to you soon."
"Hilaire,
"Thanks to you Tom, I'm learning a lot about the origin of off-road racing. Can we find any links about these jeeps, sounds like an interesting concept."
"For while, I had to put racing on the side to focus on my new business.
I did some arrive and drive events with the Jim Russell at Sears Point (now Infineon) and road race a specmiata on the west coast as well as my S2000. As a coach I have the…"
"Bonjour Hilaire,
Bienvenue.
Nous suivons les exploits de "ElBuick". Quelle auto impressionnante!
J'aimerais en savoir plus,
Participeras tu a d'autres courses cette annee ( Chihuahua, Silver state, Pikes Peak,...)?
"Dennis, Beautiful portfolio!
Yes a nice green and cool weekend at Thunderhill.
We unfortunately could not stay for the Sunday races.
I'll be at Sears Point next week,
What is the next event you are going to attend?"
"Thank you for the link,
Lot of nice shots!
I have to say, I'm very impressed, it takes some to race a car like Jess' on the dirt inches from the cliff!
But PPIHC is on my list, and it'll be vintage!
Morgan"
Hi Morgan,
I think if the PPIHC has a group of driver that can put together a class of cars to run they would make that class. A Vintage 4WD class could be made if the right people apporched them. You had dropped the name of Stroppe in one comment to me. I have learned that Bill Stroppe passed away but his son Willie is still envolved in the family buisness. I did a e-mail to him not not sure if it will ever get to him.Do you have any connections to PJ Jones, Sandy Kohn ? or any of the other racers from the 70's and 80's.
Wouldn't be great to see the OLY BRONCO race to the clouds at Pik'e Peak!!!
Let me know any info you may have and will update you also.tommalone@comcast.net

HI Morgan,
Just an update as to Vintage 4WD cars in the Vintage Class.
They would not be allowed in the Vintage class due to being
set up for sedans and sport cars that are vintage. It appears if
a vintage 4WD was allowed it would kill the class of those cars.
So at this time vintage 4WD are only allowed in the Pike's Peak
Open Class. It take a large # of Vintage 4WD to make a Vintage
4WD class. I just do not know how this could be done.
Are you going to Pike's Peak race this year?

Morgan,
I will facebook with Brian Chuchua to see if he can give anymore as to the building
of this Jeep. Here is the basics of this build.
A 390AMX engine was put into the stock on the frame. Whether if it's a Commando frame or a Jeep pickup frame, hope to get that info from Brain. The fiberglas body was put on the frame backwards. The front and rear ends were put in oppisite of stock location. This put the steering in front for normal steering. Now, start the engine and put in gear. Oh No, the car is going the wrong way. Simple fix, Brian flipped the pumpkins.
He removed the the axle tubes, flipped the pumpkin and put the tubes back on. Now it goes the correct way. This car was used as the prototype for QuadroTrac. Rollcage, 44 gallon fuel cell from a helicopter and boat headers finished it off.
My brother made some important changes to the Jeep and made the frame stronger.
You would think Mn. racing would not be as hard on the car as Desert racing but Trees and Mud and Rocks really can take there toll.
I have stored away a magazine article on this Jeep when it was built. I will see if I can find it.

Morgan,
When you dropped the Bill Stroppe I decided to look up the name Brain Chuchua and found him on facebook , so I joined facebook and sent me a note. I got a reply from him and then sent him back as to the Mid-Engine Jeep Commando that he built in the 70's and that my brother Bob bought it from him for racing in the Midwest. See my photos for an image of the Commando Mid-Engine 390 AMX Jeep. I will explain further the car if interested.

Morgan, sorry it has taken so long to get back to you. I have been prepping and sending off a portfolio of images from this past weekend's HMSA Thunderhill event. What have you going this weekend at Sears Point? Dennis
