Kit car Magazine Last Publication

So I'm reading this month's Kit Car Magazine and like most times I pass by the Editor's note page as it's mostly nonsense stuff. So I'm going thru the pages the 2nd time as they are talking of Run & Gun .I happen to notice that the Editor's page has a different look ? So I start to read it and it talks of the bad economy and how this will be the last issue of Kit Car . I'm now wondering if this will effect Run & Gun and who will do the magazine coverage if the event is still held ? Where will the Kit Car maker's advertise as most mag's frown on replica's ? For me it's a sad day as I have enjoyed the publication for some 28 years.Mike

  • That is too bad but now I am beginning to wonder at the viability of the Kit Car manufacturers. After all they are the advertisers that pay the magazine's bills. I would imagine the economy is not so bad that a folks could not afford the subscription any longer. Guess we will see how it all pans out.
    • Alan, you're probably dead-on. I would imagine the demographic of the typical kit car owner/wannabee owner is a little less affluent than that of a lot of other high-performance car buyers, and it would make sense that kits would be an early casualty of the economy.

As far as the impact on Run n' Gun, I heard back from a friend who is involved with the event. He says that RNG actually severed ties with Kit Car several years ago, even though KC continued to cover the event. Therefore he says there should be no impact on RNG. Still, it would be cool if some of us made it to RNG and got some magazine coverage. Hopefully another publication will give it some press, although I doubt it would ever be to the same extent KC typically did.
  • Mike,

That doesn't bode well for the event, though hopefully another publication will pick up the slack. It's sad; I subscribed for a long time, and even though I didn't renew when I thinned out my magazine subscriptions a few years ago (the number had gotten ridiculous, and I didn't have time to read half of them anyhow), I would still pick up an issue now and then when an article caught my eye. It's always a shock to open a publication and find out it's the final issue. Some may recall the "Cobras" magazine that was published for a while about a decade ago; that was back when I was heavily into Cobras (real and replica), and to me was the "perfect" car magazine. Right about the time I subscribed they published the final issue. Naturally no subscription refund was forthcoming!

I really, really hope that doesn't have an adverse effect on the R n' G. I'll contact an old friend from the Texas Cobra Club who is heavily involved in organiziing it, and see what he has to say.
