Interesting Lister discussion on Atlas F1

I don't know who else periodically visits The Nostalgia Forum on the Atlas F1 website, but it can be a very interesting place to burn a few minutes (hours). It can also be a very good resource when there is a question about an historic racing topic. Here is a link to a recent discussion concerning Lister-Jags vs. Lister-Chevys, with some nice period photos I have not seen before:http://forums.autosport.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=103684

  • Wow nice find Bob, I have only made it through the first half of the first page so far but a lot of great details, photos and insight. I have always wondered about the Jag vs SBC versions of the car and what compelled folks to make the switch.

I do occasionally check out that site but not all that often, looks like I should move it up higher on the list. I think I must have run across the posting that Jack referenced a couple of years ago, was it the one where theat guy held a great degree of distain for any and all replicas? If so he was definitely a butthead and I mean that in the most respectful way. :-)
    • Alan,

Yes, that's basically it. I came across a Lister-related discussion and replied with a post in which I included a picture of my car. One of the veteran posters called it a "bad replica" and turned his nose up, which just hacked me off. I mean, I know my car's a "bad replica"--I built a large part of it, so how could it be otherwise--but I don't need someone judging me and my car based on one small, low-res photo. Anyhow, just a bad moment in what has otherwise been a good experience on the forum there. I guess if you post enough anywhere and have an opinion on anything, at some point you're going to rub somebody the wrong way.

Alan, how was your open track experience this weekend? Perhaps a subject for a separate new topic?
    • Sigh. Yes there are some people that must really hate their lives and want to share it with everyone. Glad you are the polar opposite of that.

I will post a bit on the event I was at yesterday later in the day Tueday. Need to go vote and do some work first, and tonight I am just too tired to think straight.

But as a preview, I did get a chance to meet Phil and his wife Sara at the track.

Thanks for the post, very "nostalgic" for me as in running through the blog, I came upon many on my former race venue's, e.g. Pomona, Cotati, Vaca Valley, Santa Barbra, Riverside, Kent, etc. I particularly enjoyed your exchange with "wino" (obviously) a brain dead dolt.........with "minimal" appreciation for the effort involved in ground-up construction, I / we have encountered these types before, and my (somewhat) standard response to those comments are "obviously you confuse me with someone who gives a s**t"!!! e.g. consider the source.........
    • Jack,

      Oh, you saw that...

I usually try to avoid getting swept up in the s**tstorms you see on forums; there's just no percentage in it and frankly I don't have a lot of time to trade barbs with some of these folks, but that guy really struck a chord. It's funny, in the days after our little exchange I received messages from a bunch of forum members apologizing for the guy and requesting my continued involvement in the forum. Eventually I started posting again but still haven't figured out what I did that gave him so much heartburn.

Anyhow, Atlas (and particularly TNF on Atlas) can be a very interesting and helpful place.
