Beck Lister wheel backspacing

Hi folks--Can anyone with a set of the 16" kidney-bean-style wheels supplied by Chuck tell me what the front/rear backspacing dimensions are? My car is strapped on the trailer right now and I'm too lazy to unload it, pull the wheels, take measurements, and load it back again (I have an event next weekend). Thanks for any feedback--Bob

  • They fit in the fenderwells no problem but remember the rears were set inward too much so that helped.

I just found this and I think these are the specs on those Halibrand Grandsport wheels.

    Front - 17" x 8.5" (7-11/16 backspacing)
    Rear - 18" x 9.5"
    • Thanks again. I'll report on what I find when I've had a chance to look into these C4 wheels some more.
  • Bob, I found this in my old notes. To be sure, others should confirm this.

8" rims and a measured backspacing of about 6.25".

10" rear wheels have a measured back spacing of about 7.25".
    • Thanks for the feedback, guys. Nothing fancy in the works; a guy I autocross with has some C4 wheels/tires that he is willing to sell me, cheap. I wanted to compare backspacing with our wheels before I ask him to drag them along to the next autocross. We'll see if/how they work. If I can use them for "track wheels" and return my kidney beans to street duty, that would be ideal.
    • So speaking of C4 wheels, if they fit an early C4 then the backspacing should be ok but the later models had more backspacing with only one exception. I got this info from the Corvette Forum a while back.

38mm offset for the 1984 thru 1987 cars.
56mm offset for 1988+ except for Grand Sport coupes rear wheel (50mm offset) and the actual ZR-1 rear wheel (36mm offset).

I checked out a set of later Halibrand C4 wheels (17" I think) once from a friend of Scott's and while I could bolt them on in the rear there was almost no clearance between the rim edge and one of the trailing links. I probably could not have put a tire on the rim and bolted it on. The fronts were fine.

    • Alan, as ever, thanks for the most useful feedback. I've looked on one of the Corvette sites and there is a myriad of C4 widths and backspacings. I'm not even sure which wheels this guy has for sale. He has a '92 and recently installed ZR-1 wheels on it, but I'm not clear on whether the wheels he's interested in selling are the '92 stockers or if they are a second set of unknown vintage that he has in his garage. I suspect the best thing will be to actually bolt them on as you did with the Halibrands. Do you happen to recall what the widths of those wheels were? Did they appear to fit within the fenderwells? Chuck's rear flares continue to be an option, but I suspect it would be a while before I could bring myself to turn the car over to a body shop, even if I had a set of them in hand.
  • Here are the measurements on my PSE KB wheels from measurements I took a while back.

On the front 16"x8" wheels, backspace is 6-1/2"
On the rear 16"x10" wheels, backspace is 7"

What are you up to? New wheels? If so I would recommend that you double check and measure yours prior to ordering just in case something got changed along the way. I know that PSE changed the rear offset at some point after my originals were made.
  • Bob

Mine are American Racing 17", therefore no help here, sorry.

On the positve side our weather here has turned to "summer" (75+ degree's!!!), therefore have been out in the Lister a great deal over the last 10 days or so, (headed out now) yee haw!
